Historical Results From The North American Figure Skating Championships

Held bienally over a forty-eight year period, the North American Figure Skating Championships were a prestigious international competition between skaters from Canada and the United States. Many of these events have been covered on Skate Guard previously, but full results from the competition are something that haven't been easily accessible in years past. I've compiled them here through back issues of "Skating" magazine, competition programs and newspaper archives.

*An unusual experiment was tried where both the pairs and fours teams skated their programs twice, judged the first time on the difficulty and the second on their performance. The Connaught Trophy was awarded to the second-place four from the Toronto Skating Club because of a rule stipulating that all members of the winning four had to be from the same club. The Caley sisters were members of the Granite Club; their male partners from the Toronto Skating Club.

*The net proceeds from this event were donated to the British War Relief Society. Canadian women swept the podium for the first time and the men's event produced one of the closest results on record. The six judges arrived at a 3-3 deadlock on country lines, with each judge placing the other skater second. The result was determined by point totals, with McCreath having an edge by eight tenths of a point.
